mom's baptism
Background : For the past several years, people from our church and my other Christian friends have been visiting my parents. Mom went to three churches, one time at each church, though. 台南聖教會,我們教會& 中洲長老教會
Hip-joint replacement surgery:Feb. 2010
The morning of checking into the hospital (around noon) Teacher Zen (曾老師) & Huei-fen (a Christian teacher at 南大,whom I had known since I was in OSU, Columbus, Ohio) had come and taught Mom how to pray and call on Him. Teacher Zen made a big card with words of encouragement from the Bible.
Mom memorized how to pray to Jesus word by word and practiced praying to Jesus while she was in the surgery room, in the hospital. She told those who visited her that she was not at all worried or fearful, for she prayed. She told us (Huei-fen and me) that she felt and saw someone touched her left leg, the one that had the surgery. She learned to sing 天父恩典真正大 & the words of true faith in Jesus given by 韶璇 when she and 鍾哥 visited her in the hospital. She was at rest and they did not see her or talk to her in person. I read it and explained it to her.
毛師母 & 曾 老師探訪 : on a Sunday afternoon in early May (May 2, May 9 ???, it was the last Sunday before Teacher Zen set off for the trip to Mainland China )
During the visit, Mom told them that she had talked to her sisters about converting
to a Christian. Her sisters told her that “ believing in Jesus is OK, but it is not necessary to have a baptism.” She said she did believe in Jesus, but she was not ready for a baptism.
The weekend of May 15, 16
My sister had found some lady to come over to help around the house. Mom told my sister that that lady was not suitable, for she was a buddist or a taoist. Mom told my sister that we believed in Jesus so it was not suitable for a non-Christian to help around the house.
May 18
Huei-fen hoped to visit Dad, who was hospitalized since May 17. I told her not to visit Dad, but maybe she could come home with me to visit Mom. While I was away to tell my Fifth Uncle about Dad in the hospital, they had a talk. Huei-fen told Mom what it meant by being baptized and shared with her Huei-fen’s mom’s testimony. Huei-fen reported that with a short pause, to much of her surprise as well, my mom proclaimed that “ I’ll have the baptism.”
Final Words
My older sister just returned to visit my parents in April and she is coming back again tomorrow night (May 21). She plans to stay till early June. It would be great if Mom could have the baptism before she leave for the States.
Thank you very much for your time reading this and planning for Mom’s baptism.

I arrived home at night ( 7:10). Mom told me someone called. (She was so hard of hearing that she could not identify who was the caller.) The caller congratulated Mom on her decision to be baptized, so I guess she should be one among my Christian circle. Then, mom said the night after she talked with Huei-fen and decided to have a baptism, she dreamed of her own Dad, my grandpa. He told Mom, “Yes, you should have the baptism.” Mom was surprised but pleased to have such a dream to confirm her decision on baptism.
